Fenix Signalling welcomes Steve McLaren as non-executive director

Fenix Signalling has appointed Steve McLaren as a non-executive director.

Steve will join the board in March and provide oversight and advisory support to Fenix – one of the UK’s leading railway signalling business.

Steve has extensive experience in the rail industry, spending more than 30 years with French transport giant Alstom, including seven years as Managing Director of Signalling Solutions Ltd, an Alstom/Balfour Beatty joint venture, which he managed from the concept in 2007 and grew to £200m per annum. He currently runs the McLaren Consultancy, a business which provides strategic support to organisations in the rail industry.

Craig Purcell, managing director of Fenix Signalling, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Steve to our board as a non-executive director. His vast experience and track record for building key relationships make him an industry leader in rail and his commercial and management experience will be extremely beneficial to our aims of achieving sustainable growth and unlocking new opportunities in the signalling sector.”

Fenix Signalling has recently been involved in the design and commissioning of a unique signalling interface system at Banbury Depot, working with German engineering firm Pintsch Tiefenbach to create an interface that enables the depot control system to link directly to Network Rail infrastructure and interface with any type of UK interlocking. The technology is the first of its kind to be used in the UK.

On joining Fenix Signalling’s board, Steve said: “I’m really pleased to be joining Fenix Signalling in a non-executive director capacity and am looking forward to working with the board from a strategic perspective. Fenix is a business with a fantastic potential in the UK marketplace and with an international presence with projects spanning countries across South East Asia and Australia.

“I believe my background and experience in the rail sector will help the business to expand its operations into new territories and grow organically and sustainably, to become a leading choice for signalling and equipment solutions.”

Fenix Signalling recently relocated its headquarters to a brand new facility in Stratford-Upon-Avon following a number of key appointments. Craig Purcell said the move was undertaken to support the business’s growth aspirations for the next five years.
