FENIX RAIL SYSTEMS PRESENTS ITS VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF TRAIN FACILITY CONTROL

Fenix Rail Systems presents its vision for the future of Train Facility Control

At the recent Hanning & Kahl Partner Conference in Germany, attended by representatives from 26 countries worldwide, Fenix Rail Systems proudly presented its vision for the future of Train Facility Control, outlining how smarter, data-driven control systems can improve safety, reliability, and efficiency across the rail industry.

While the mainline has benefited from decades of digital innovation, depot and yard environments have often lagged behind, despite being some of the most complex and risk-intensive parts of the network.

The UK Challenge

The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) reports that yards, depots and sidings (YDS) account for around 22% of workforce harm across the industry. Within those environments, slips, trips and falls contribute 43%, and contact with objects or moving vehicles about 32% of incidents.

While the Office of Rail and Road (ORR)’s latest health and safety report highlights ongoing progress, depot safety remains a key improvement focus.

These figures show that as the UK rail system expands and modernises, depot safety and operational efficiency must evolve in parallel.

The Fenix Rail Systems Approach

Fenix Rail Systems’ Train Facility Control (TFC) FenLock solution integrates safety, control and digital operations under one coordinated platform built around three guiding principles:

- Unified Situational Awareness – real-time visibility across train movements, stabling roads, and maintenance zones.

- Digital Workflow & Control Integration – consistent, safe processes that reduce variation and human error.

- Predictive Insights & Data-Driven Safety analysing asset and movement data to prevent unsafe conditions before they occur.

Supporting the UK’s Next Generation of Depot Infrastructure With many major UK projects completed and our next generation FenLock systems now being available the demand for modern, integrated depot systems has never been greater.

Fenix Rail Systems is proud to work alongside leading  Tier 1 industry partners to help design and deliver depot control systems that enhance safety, streamline operations, and future-proof infrastructure for decades to come.

A Shared Global Vision

With 26 countries represented at the Hanning & Kahl conference, the discussion underscored a shared global commitment to improving rail facility safety and performance.

“The future of FenLock control isn’t about replacing people,” we told the audience. “It’s about empowering them using technology to create a safer, smarter, more efficient environment for everyone working on the railway.”

Fenix Rail Systems remains dedicated to helping UK and international rail operators realise that.
