Meet Eddie Murphy, Projects Director

At Fenix Signalling, Eddie Murphy is responsible for the management and development of all aspects of client signalling projects, as well as the promotion of the company’s capabilities within the broad rail signalling sector.

Eddie’s wealth of experience spans over 25 years in the industry, both in the UK and at a number of worldwide destinations, focusing on project management and signal engineering consultancy during the last 10 years.

Eddie began his working life in the British Army, spending time in Canada and Germany. Part of his experience included working with Chieftain battle tanks.

In 1991, he began a 4 year stint for British Rail with a further 4 years for its predecessors culminating with Adtranz, working as a Signalling Designer, Assistant Tester and Design Manager. During this time he studied at Reading College of Technology, where he gained a HND in Electrics and Electronic Engineering. Though based in the UK he worked on a wide variety of international projects in Australia (New South Wales), Iran, Turkey and Sweden.

This was excellent grounding for the next 16 years of his career, when he was based exclusively overseas. Working in a variety of roles including signalling trainer, independent verifier, Engineering Manager and Project Manager, he gained further knowledge of many of the world’s railways from projects in Australia (New South Wales and Victoria), New Zealand, Malaysia, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia and Romania.

Two of Eddie’s career highlights were international projects. The first was in the mid-nineties, when he was assigned by Adtranz as Signalling Designer and Project Engineer for the Sydney Light Rail project that returned trams to the streets of Sydney after a gap of 50 years and more recently, he was proud to be part of the team which delivered the first phase of Mumbai Monorail – the first modern railway of its kind in India, which opened in 2014.

Eddie returned to the UK in September 2014 and was joined by his family in the summer of 2015. His knowledge, skills and professionalism are a great asset to the Fenix team and his sound work ethic and commitment to ensuring safety, quality and efficiency have been key to his success in delivering excellence throughout every project.

Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, walking his dog and studying/reading ancient history.
