Fenix’s Matt Wain awarded IRSE Design License

Fenix Signalling is delighted to announce that one of its talented signalling design engineers has been awarded a full Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) Design License.

The IRSE operates a competence certification scheme to provide assurance about the competence of individuals to carry out technical safety-critical or safety-related work on signalling and railway telecommunications equipment and systems. It provides a cross industry accepted benchmark of competence for personnel carrying out a range of activities from maintenance through design, installation, testing, project engineering and senior technical management.

Matt was awarded his Signalling Design License (1.1.510v3) in November 2017. To achieve the license, he was required to complete a workplace assessment, followed by an independent assessment carried out by an IRSE-registered assessor.

While working towards his design license, Matt worked under the mentorship of a principles designer, on projects including the RETB Far North Interlocking Split and the RETB West Highland Upgrade. He was also involved in the Banbury Depot signalling system upgrade, where he assisted with the simulating of Tiefenbach data on the company’s testing rig.

Discussing Matt’s IRSE licensing, Craig Purcell, Managing Director of Fenix Signalling, said: “Congratulations to Matt Wain on achieving his full IRSE Design License, which represents a huge step in his career as a signalling design engineer.

“Since joining Fenix, Matt has built up an impressive list of qualifications, and worked hard under the mentorship of our senior signalling engineers to develop his knowledge and skills. He is a testament to our pledge to developing our employees’ skills through on-the-job training.”

On his award of the IRSE Signalling Design License, Matt said: “I’m very pleased to achieve this highly sought-after industry certification. It will be hughely beneficial to my future career in the signalling industry and I’m looking forward to undertaking new projects with increased responsibilities, demonstrating my capabilities while also continuing to develop my knowledge and skills further.”
